Time to Take Control

Time to Take Control is a class for non-compliant/non-custodial mothers.  Referrals to this class are made through the IV-D courts and the Community Supervision Unit of the Tarrant County Domestic Relations Office.

The profile of a non-custodial mother is different from that of a non-custodial father so different issues must be addressed.  Based on information gathered at meetings with the Community Supervision staff, this  class addresses the unique challenges of female NCPs such as:

Social Stigma    Self Esteem    Employment (unskilled or under employment)

Additive Behaviors and Domestic Violence Issues (repeating the past)

Committing to the child

Resource Referrals to government agencies and community programs are made as needed.

NOTE:  While studies show there is not a great issue with non-custodial mothers” desiring” to have contact with their children, the challenge arises in the access of the visitation.  If these mothers can understand that their lack of making timely and consistent child support payments is directly affecting the access they have to their children – and in many cases the custody itself – then they may be more receptive to making the changes necessary for the good of their children. Mothers and fathers each have different styles of interacting with their children and it is important for children developmentally that they be stimulated by this diversity in parenting.
