Prayer Warriors

What are Prayer Warriors?

NewDay coordinates a ministry that is comprised of many volunteers who pray daily concerning the juveniles’ requests that are gathered at the end of each week’s Character Class & Juvenile FOCUS class.  Prayer Warriors pray also that all the children who come through juvenile services understand that God loves them, that He made them for a purpose and that He is near to them.

What kind of requests do you get?

Every week a great number of juveniles are taken into custody by police for a variety of reasons and brought to the Juvenile Detention Center for processing. Some may be there only hours, others for weeks. Charges range from simple minor misunderstandings to capital murder.

Juveniles’ names, or names of family and associates, and some dates are omitted here for confidentiality and privacy reasons. We do try to preserve their original wording and spelling, but sometimes changes must be made for clarity.

Here is an explanation of terms the juveniles may use in their requests:

"Court" (often misspelled as ‘cort’) refers to the juvenile's next court date. (Four courts operate at the Center.) "Kimbo" is the Justice Center, located at 2701 Kimbo Rd. (just off Sylvania near 28th St. ).

"PO" is probation officer.

"DA" is District Attorney.

"TYC" is Texas Youth Commission (prison system for juveniles)

"Placement" refers to a judge placing a juvenile in a program away from home.
