Thank you for your generosity in 2007! Faithful donors enabled us to accomplish goals for the year. Your generosity benefited those served and
reached into the lives of their families, making Tarrant County a better place to live. Donations result in healthier children and families, reduces crime, keeps people working, and children in school. Purpose and direction is gained once more, as the painful past recedes. Your support and our programs help people when they need it the most!
Here are some highlights from 2007:
•Family Law Center: Don Mansfield and Carol Maples continued to be available in the courts for emotional support, provided mediation services
for couples & families and conducted marriage commnication trainings. Don, a Level 2 mediator, is certified in Basic Family, Victim Offender, CPS and Truancy mediation, is a certified Parent Coordinator, helping divorced couples create a Parenting Plan. Carol is certified as a Civil, Family and Juvenile Victim Offender mediator. Her “Time to Take Control” program helped female non-custodial parents overcome numerous obstacles.
•Access without Conflict: Helps divorcing parents face the fact that the child is the priority, and should not be caught in the middle. Attendance increased as judges ordered more parents and families to attend.
•Kid’s Quest: The program for children of divorce relocated to the cultural district of Ft. Worth in the Park Hill Church facility. The large medieval-themed room upstairs served as the backdrop for Kid’s Quest. Dunaway Associates, the corporate sponsor for the year, providing volunteers too. Thank you Park Hill and Dunaway Associates!
•Juvenile Justice Center: With the many high profile crimes committed by juveniles in 2007, Mike Brown and Kristi Lambert helped ease tensions when emotions ran high in the courts. Kristi continued teaching Life Skills classes. Thanks to individuals’ donations, the Adeline & George McQueen Foundation and the Ryan Foundation, we were able to continue funding for “Character Counts!”- the program that ties juveniles’ good behavior into earning a ‘Prayer Bear” for a sick child at Cook Children’s Hospital. We are
still seeking funds for 2008.
•F.O.C.U.S.: IV-D Court judges mandated that fathers attend classes due to non-payment of child support. FOCUS Coordinator, Tommy Jordan made sure NewDay’s fatherhood curriculum continued to evolve in order to better meet the needs of the fathers and the program was featured in a news story with CBS 11. To view the coverage, go to: www.newdayservices.org and follow the link at the top of the FOCUS Program page.
•Administration: In December, NewDay secured a larger office space for administration so that program staff could meet with people outside the courts, as needed.
•Fundraising: Jody Dean from CBS 11 and K-LUV, was the key-note speaker for the Donor Dinner. The golf tournament raised close to $30,000 with Terry Bradshaw as the guest host. “Friends of NewDay” launched their “First Annual Dinner and Art Show”, raising $15,000. Jeff Jamison; meteorologist from CBS was guest speaker. The Clay Shoot, with Mark McLemore, former Texas Ranger, and CBS 11 reporter, Mark Johnson, raised
over $7,500 for FOCUS.
•The Executive Board approved office space and staff benefits, increasing the ’08 budget by approximately $60,000. A possible collaboration with the Fatherhood Coalition of Tarrant County and CPS was approved, that would engage the fathers of children in foster care, thereby improving outcomes for the children.
NewDay provides services without charge. As the program grows, so too grows the budget! We will need additional funds and more donors in 2008.
