Juvenile Justice Center

Picture
NewDay has provided chaplains in the Tarrant County Juvenile Justice Center since 2000. Detainment is a sobering experience as juveniles face the consequences of their unwise choices.  About 700 children are referred to the Juvenile Justice Center in Tarrant County yearly with 65 to 70 juveniles in detention each week.

For many, this is their first introduction to the criminal justice system.  NewDay Services offers tools to them that will enable them  to take positive control of their lives.

The “Character Counts!” Program shows juveniles they can choose to act positively instead of negatively. The daily  classes cast a vision of what they can become and through the “Character Counts!” traits they can make different choices in their lives.

By providing emotional support and classes, the juvenile has the opportunity to return to the community with the tools they need to change their lives; therefore, able to contribute to their own success.  That is the goal of NewDay Services.

From Trouble to Triumph

Created and developed by the Mike Brown & Kristi Johnson, Juvenile Justice Chaplains, this guide is given to each junvenile who leaves the detention center.  It is a pocket guide they can use to remind them of the important lessons they learned in their "Character Counts!" classes;  a directory of people they can rely on to contact "on the outside";  encouraging quotes from former juveniles who have walked where they walk; and much more.  Inside is a coupon for a free Bible also available for them when they leave the center.   If you would like to help to continue to make these important documents available for the teens and pre-teens, please go to the WISH LIST and make your donation on their behalf.
