As we are in this season of giving, we are reminded of the great Kingdom work being done by our team at NewDay Services, especially through our Mentor Navigator, Sheri Levya, and our Chaplain, Scott. Their efforts show us how God’s love and compassion can transform lives in practical, life-changing ways.
Sheri recalls the first time she met Kerrian, a determined mom fighting to get her boys back. Despite living in Dallas, Kerrian made the long drive to Denton each week to attend our FOCUS classes. She was scared and felt defeated, yet she showed incredible strength and courage. Kerrian wasn’t just going through the motions; she was eager to heal, grow, and learn. Sheri saw her as the star of the class, and the whole group rallied around her, even praying for her when emotions ran high. Through her hard work and faith, Kerrian graduated from the program, got her boys back, and had her case closed. But the story didn’t end there. Kerrian faced another challenge—her apartment was infested with bugs, and she had to move out. In search of safety, she found a shelter, but with past traumatic experiences, she couldn’t bear to take her boys there. Sheri shared this need in a devotional, asking for prayers. That same morning, Chaplain Scott reached out to Kerrian. What happened next is a testament to God’s provision and the unwavering support of the NewDay team. Chaplain Scott learned that Kerrian had been sleeping in her car with her three young boys due to the dire circumstances. Despite these hardships, she remained hopeful and focused on her most pressing needs: a job, a safe place to live, food, and a reliable car. That day, God moved through Chaplain Scott, his wife Linda, and the community. They arranged for Kerrian and her boys to stay in a motel for 12 days, provided food, and helped her get to a job interview in Denton, where she was offered a job on the spot. As a bonus, her new job came with housing at just 30% of the normal rent. When they took her car to a mechanic, they learned it had been dangerously low on oil for weeks. The mechanic was astonished it had even made it that far without the engine seizing up. Kerrian shared that she had been driving with no oil for six weeks—a miraculous sign of God’s protection. As Chaplain Scott said, “Do you understand what the Lord did? He enabled a young mom and her three boys to drive around in a dangerous car with no oil for six weeks! We have a great God in heaven who still does miracles on behalf of those in desperate need.” Praise the Lord! Sheri shared, “Chaplain Scott went above and beyond because he is passionate about serving and helping families. It is beautiful to see people serve others in this capacity.” This is what NewDay Services is all about—living out the love of Jesus in practical ways, offering hope, and witnessing miracles in the lives of those we serve.
