Our Story
In 1997, NewDay Services' founder, Randy Thomas, went to the Family Law Center to support a friend and left determined to alleviate some of the sufferings he witnessed. He subsequently created NewDay Services, a 501(C)(3) public charity that has supported a NewDay Services Family Advocate/Chaplain at the Family Law Center for over 20 years. NewDay Services has grown since then providing chaplains/advocates at the Juvenile Justice Center since 2001; providing the FOCUS program (Fathers Offering Children Unfailing Support) classes to men delinquent on child support (mandated by Family Court judges) since 2002 and serving fathers involved with Child Protective Services (CPS) in Tarrant County since 2008. In 2011, NewDay Services became part of the collaborative Fathers and Children Together (FACT) Program offering a comprehensive approach to responsible parenting. In 2012, NewDay Services was contracted by CPS to provide the FOCUS program to fathers throughout Collin, Dallas, Denton, and Tarrant counties of CPS Region 3. Beginning in March 2020, we were contracted to provide the FOCUS program to fathers in all 19 counties of CPS Region 3.
Due to the success of the FOCUS program for fathers, and CPS’ request for a similar program for mothers, NewDay Services began offering the FOCUS program to mothers in 2013, to promote healthy mother involvement in the lives of their children. Between 2016-2020, NewDay Services also offered prevention and early intervention programs to clients on a voluntary basis through the Fatherhood's EFFECT program funded by the PEI Division of DFPS. In 2019 we added Mentor-Navigation to the CPS FOCUS classes for fathers. We have developed a FOCUS+ “Theory of Change and Logic Model” with the help of James Bell Associates and the Annie E. Casey Foundation to find better ways to serve our mothers and fathers.
We believe when mothers and fathers are empowered to protect and nurture their children’s well-being, our children, families, and communities are stronger. As such, NewDay Services offers mothers and fathers an interactive learning experience (FOCUS+ Curriculum) and a highly relational, dedicated point of contact (Mentor-Navigator) to help them realize their potential as parents.
